Organ Appeal

Our organ is one of the finest in the area. The last time it had major work done to it was about the time our Director of Music was born; it will soon be time for a major overhaul (for the organ, I mean). It is not yet time to undertake this work; there are major works to be done to the roof and other parts of the building that must be undertaken first. There is a “second skin” polythene covering on the roof over the organ, which has been keeping water out, but there has still been some water damage in the last few years. There have also been problems with some parts of the organ drying out. A humidifier has been fitted which has helped to alleviate some of these concerns, but some elements, notably certain wooden and leather parts, can no longer be persuaded to work as they should.

To find out more about the effect of these mechanical difficulties when using the organ, we have created a video:

In order to keep the organ in reasonable working order before major work can be considered, we urgently need to make repairs. The cost of the repairs is between £6,000 and £7,000. We do not have the funds available to undertake these repairs, and so we are now seeking donations towards this work.
In order to make a donation, please make an electronic transfer to the church, using the following
details:
Sort Code: 40-52-40
Account Number: 00020401
Account Name: Newark Team PCC (SMMDCC Trust Account)
Reference: Organ Fund
If we already have an existing gift aid declaration then the donation will be treated as gift aided (and the tax reclaimed will be added to the organ fund). It would help our administration enormously if you could also let Stephen Bullamore (choir@stmnewark.org) and/or Pat Mercer (treasurer@stmnewark.org) know when you make a donation.
If you would like more information about the organ and the works that are needed, please contact Stephen Bullamore or Mike Dutton who will be happy to explain in more detail.
